From July 7 to 11, 2025, a delegation from the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Components (IUL) at TU Dortmund University attended NUMISHEET 2025 in Munich, one of the leading international conferences on the numerical simulation of sheet metal forming processes.

The IUL was represented by the research associates Monica Trask, Robin Gitschel, Sebastian Welter Kratzel, Markus Stennei, Florian Kneuper, Olaf Schrage und Gabriel Marin. The head of the institute, Prof. Yannis Korkolis, was selected as a chairperson for the conference by the organizers. The IUL team presented recent research on topics such as incremental profile forming, high-speed blanking, progressive die press hardening, mechanical joining of aluminum profiles, and data-driven damage modeling.

We are especially proud that Monica Trask and Yong Hou, who is currently at the IUL as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, were awarded third place in the Scientific Benchmark. Additionally, Gabriel Marin achieved second place in the Industrial Benchmark.

It was a great week full of technical exchange and discussions with colleagues from around the globe — from Canada, the US, France, Switzerland, China, Japan, and beyond. We look forward to continuing the collaborations sparked during this week!
