Introduction to Production Technology (formerly Fertigungslehre)
This course is available only in German language.
The module “Introduction to Production Technology” begins with an overview of various primary shaping processes used in the production of metal semi-finished products. Subsequently, the fundamentals of forming and machining processes are introduced, and their underlying principles are explained. In addition, the module provides an introduction to plastics processing and the manufacture of plastic components. The module is jointly taught by the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Components (IUL), the Institute of Machining Technology (ISF), and the Chair of Plastics Technology (LKT).
The IUL lectures cover the fundamental terminology, processes, and machinery used in metal forming. In addition to steel production and semi-finished product manufacturing, casting processes, sheet metal forming, bulk metal forming, and lightweight construction, the lectures address the fundamentals of materials physics. They also introduce the basic physical quantities, such as stress and strain, required for the design and analysis of forming processes. Furthermore, the lectures address sustainability and energy- and resource-efficient manufacturing.
