Factory tour Alunorf

© IUL
At the end of January, IUL students and doctoral candidates had the opportunity to visit the world's largest aluminum smelting and rolling plant in Neuss. Alunorf produces aluminum sheets for various applications, for example in the packaging industry or the automotive sector. The plant tour took place as part of the lecture “Property-oriented semi-finished product production” and offered exciting insights into the entire process chain - from the melting of recycled and primary aluminum to alloy adjustment and ingot casting through to subsequent forming. After hot rolling on one of the two hot rolling mills, the final product properties are defined in the cold rolling process. The tour of the production facilities and the lively discussions allowed for a practical consolidation of the content conveyed in the lecture.
