On June 25, Prof. Josep Maria Carbonell Puigbo visited the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Components (IUL) as part of his stay at the Institute of Mechanics (IM).

Prof. Carbonell is an Aggregate Professor at the University of Vic – University of Central Catalonia and an Associate Research Professor at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Barcelona, Spain. He is an internationally highly recognized expert in the Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM), particularly in its application to complex material forming, machining processes and coupled problems. During his visit, IUL had the opportunity to introduce Prof. Carbonell to its current activities in the field of metal forming, opening the door for potential future collaboration. His stay promoted a fruitful scientific exchange and further strengthened the cooperation between TU Dortmund University and CIMNE in the field of advanced numerical modeling.

At this point we would also like to mention that Prof. Carbonell also served as the second examiner for the Ph.D. thesis and defense by Markus Schewe from the Institute of Mechanics at TU Dortmund University. A part of the Ph.D. thesis by Markus Schewe focuses on the modeling of Directed Energy Deposition (DED) processes, as part of the DFG-funded project with project number of 504955789.
