The SchnupperUni 2023 offered high school students the opportunity to inform themselves about study programs as well as current research. As in previous years, the IUL represented the field of mechanical engineering and demonstrated in an interactive lecture entitled "From can to car!" how fundamental research in the field of forming technology can contribute to making material cycles more sustainable. During the lecture, which was also intended to provide a realistic insight into the potential everyday life of a university student, the students learned how known forming processes are modified to enable the direct utilization of waste, such as aluminum chips. This saves a lot of energy and thus CO2 compared to established processes. Various in-situ experiments invited the visitors to participate. The 90-minute event was concluded with a live demonstration of chip extrusion in the IUL's experimental hall.
