On May 4 and 5, 2026, the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Components (IUL) at TU Dortmund University welcomed Prof. Takayuki Hama from the Graduate School of Energy Science at Kyoto University for a scientific exchange visit. The visit focused on intensive discussions with the institute’s research associates and the head of the institute. During a guided tour through the experimental hall, Prof. Hama was introduced to the institute’s ongoing research activities and projects. The professional exchange provided both sides with the opportunity to discuss scientific perspectives and deepen their shared interests in the field of advanced forming technology. One of the highlights of the visit was Prof. Hama’s guest lecture entitled “Crystal plasticity modeling of large deformation behavior of Aluminum alloy sheets and its application to hole expansion simulation.” In his presentation, Prof. Hama introduced current research approaches for describing work-hardening behavior at large plastic strains using crystal plasticity. The results show that calibrating the hardening parameters based on experimental data beyond uniform elongation significantly improves the prediction of the onset of strain localization in hole expansion tests. The entire IUL team would like to sincerely thank Prof. Takayuki Hama for his openness in scientific exchange and for the valuable insights into his research fields. The visit represented an important contribution to international collaboration and professional dialogue. In the future, scientific exchange will be further intensified, and the collaboration between the IUL and Kyoto University will be further expanded.
