Doctoral examination at the IUL

The examination committee included Prof. A. Erman Tekkaya (IUL, TU Dortmund), Prof. Sebastian Härtel (Head of the Hybrid Manufacturing Department, Brandenburg University of Technology), Prof. Marcel Bartz (Chair of Design and Product Development, TU Dortmund), and Prof. Ulrich Handge (Chair of Plastics Technology, TU Dortmund).
In his dissertation, Mr. Holstein developed the fundamentals for a novel bending process called “incremental bending in a die.” The process enables the production of complex structures with a simple set of tools and machines. Specific process variables were defined and described, relevant mechanisms were presented, a basis for process and tool design was created, an analytical approach to process design was developed, and a basis for path planning was established. Viktor Holstein was supervised and supported in this work by Prof. Matthias Hermes from the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences (Manufacturing and Forming Technology), who is the co-inventor of the process.
