The DFG (German Research Foundation)-funded priority program “Targeted Utilization of Forming-Induced Residual Stresses in Metallic Components,” successfully carried out from 2017 to 2023, investigated the purposeful use of residual stresses introduced during manufacturing through interdisciplinary collaboration between the fields of production engineering, materials engineering, mechanics, and structural durability.

In the transfer project launched in April 2024, the IUL, in collaboration with the Chair of Materials and Surface Engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology and Forvia SE, is investigating the potential of targeted residual stress control in incremental forming for component geometries relevant to industrial applications.
