Project description:
Aim of the project is the evaluation of a combined profile bending and mechanical tailoring process with a simultaneous minimization of the profile warping. Therefore, profiles of 22MnB5 and X20Cr13 are kinematically bent. The setting of material properties as well as the warping reduction of the profiles is achieved through partial, inductive heating above the recrystallization temperature and subsequent quenching. Currently, the behavior of plane sheets and L-profiles under thermal and thermal-mechanical load has been investigated. These tests are used to differentiate between effects of the inhomogeneous temperature field and the mechanical load on the strain field. Results of the profile tensile tests for a heating temperature of 900 °C are displayed below. It can be seen that over increasing strain the temperature homogenizes over the profile width due to conduction of the heat. On the other hand, maximum strain decreases with increasing distance from the initially heated zone.
