In September 2021, the third phase of the DFG-funded project on "Improvement of product properties by selective induction of residual stresses in incremental sheet metal forming", part of the priority program SPP 2013, started with the objective to regulate and control residual stresses by utilizing forming technologies in order to achieve a positive impact on relevant characteristics of manufactured components.

In cooperation with the chair of materials and surface engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology, the IUL is investigating how residual stresses can be induced into the workpiece through the process of incremental sheet metal forming. The aim is an optimized fatigue strength in a corrosive environment.
